Popular Chinese search engine Baidu has been sued in early 2008 for providing “deep links” to hundreds of thousands of infringing tracks on third-party sites. The case was launched in the Beijing No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court by Universal Music, Sony BMG Music Entertainment Hong Kong and Warner Music Hong Kong.
But source on Tuesday said that “China’s Baidu wins court case against music groups”. The IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) which represents the recording industry worldwide, said it was very disappointed with the ruling after a court in China decided that the search engine had not broken rules by linking to music downloads that infringe copyright.
Though no one at Baidu or the court was available to comment, IFPI is considering to next steps since the case is extremely disappointing to music recording industry.
